Question:

The Industry?The Industry?

by | Jun 18, 2022 | Questions & Answers

To the following writing below:
?The Industry?
The Industrial food system has some interesting connections to Pollan’s book. Wilk’s article about Belize mentions that “the foreign is affecting ‘little Belize’”, and gives some examples, such as a “returned cook who no longer recognizes catfish”. I think a similar situation can be put into the limelight with life and fast food restaurants. Little kids probably do not care about what goes into their food, like what the chickens or cows that become nuggets and burgers eat. Once they grow up, however, they might start to pay more attention to what goes into their food and concentrate eating healthier.
Another significant point to bring up is the fact that many people in the world are overweight or obese. In the ABC News video, it is mentioned and shown that children in in Mexico frequently drink Coca-Cola and other soft drinks, which are even considered part of their diet (14:52). This unhealthy frequency in one of many factors that lead to so many overweight and obese people in the world, especially since they are drinking soft drink so often in their early years. The video also mentions that the companies set low prices on their products to ensure people can afford them and buy them (14:45).
Reading Pollan’s book has not affected my views about my own eating habits. I normally decide what I eat by how hungry I am and what I feel I want to eat. During such meals, I usually take a little bit of everything I like. Reading this book gave me the impression that I should add some stuff I do not like to eat into these meals. If I did this, I would react with disgust. Overall, this book has not affected my eating habits because I do not want people to have the impression that I am not enjoying what I am eating.
