Additional Information
Introduction
Nurses use the literature review process in a variety of settings and for a variety of purposes. Research journal articles are reports that summarize a study or one aspect of a complex study.
Results sections present research findings (the results obtained in the data analysis). The data may be quantitative or qualitative in nature. In quantitative studies the results section will
include the following:
The names of the statistical tests used to test hypotheses and evaluate the believability of the findings.
The value of the calculated statistics which allow researchers to draw conclusions about the meaning of the results.
The significance of the results statistically.
Explaining the statistical significance of a study is the most important part of the process. If the researcher reports that the results are statistically significant it means the findings are
probably valid and replicable with a new sample of participants.
When appraising evidence it is important to understand the findings and whether or not the analysis is indeed significant and reliable. It is important to develop interventions and practice based
on good evidence.
